Ah, summer. Warm weather, long days, kids out of school...
Now, I realized that not all kids are out of school for the summer, but many are. (I get comments every time I write something "traditional school calendar" oriented.) My kids have been out for a whopping four days and already I'm hearing the complaints: "I'm bored." "I'm hungry." "I've read all the good books in the library."
What's a parent to do?
I certainly don't claim to have all the answers, but I have scrounged together a few ideas for cheap summer projects. Here's what is planned at the Kashman household this summer:
- building sculptures out of toothpicks and miniature marshmallows (I suggested glue but my kids thought marshmallows would be more fun.)
- learning how to bake bread
- find all the free museums around us (don't forget to see the Blue Star Museum list.)
- library, library, library
I don't have enough ideas to fill the summer without breaking the bank. Please share your summer plans with me!
