A Random Rant

FacebookXPinterestEmailEmailEmailShare

I hope that you will indulge me in a small rant here.  I was at the Navy Exchange today, and there was another person in line who was picking up some merchandise from layaway.  She was very, very excited opening her packages.  There were three things about this whole situation that got me riled up.

First, she couldn't even remember what she had put on layaway.  As she pulled out each item, she made comments like "Oh, I put these on layaway?" or "Oh, isn't this cute?"  Clearly none of it was that important if she couldn't even remember what she had selected.

Second, none of these were inexpensive or necessary items.  Everything she bought was clothing, and all expensive and very trendy.  These were not clothes that she was going to wear for the next ten years, but rather clothes that she was going to wear for a season and then be done with (or have to keep but hate.)  I don't know all that much about clothes, but there was at least $150 worth of merchandise there.

Third was a sarcastic comment she made whilst unwrapping her things.  "Oh, my husband is going to be surprised.  I told him we didn't have enough money for him to get {blank} this paycheck."

Seriously?  You think this is funny?  You have just bought a bunch of overpriced clothes that you probably don't need, it appears that you have to budget carefully if you are using layaway and you are keeping your husband from making purchases because you don't have the money, and you are buying expensive clothes behind his back.  There are so many things wrong with this picture, I don't even know where to start.

Thank you for letting me vent.
