18 September 2010 Saturday Roundup

I've always wondered how active duty people manage to find the time to get their college degrees.  It seems so overwhelming!  Well, thanks to Ryan at The Military Wallet, now I know.  I love his first hand account, Tips For Taking Classes While In The Military.  Good stuff there, and some decent tips for those of us who are taking classes but are not in the military, too.

An interesting look at personal finance by Len Penzo at Len Penzo dot Com, If You Can't Live on $40,000 Per Year, It's Your Own Fault.  To begin with, let me say that the title really struck me as harsh.  There have been times in our life that we have lived on less than $40,000 per year, but at this particular point it seems that it would be impossible.  Okay, not impossible, but very hard.  We'd have to leave the town that we love because just a mortgage payment or rent would easily cost $24,0o0 each year, or we would have to raid every retirement/college/other investment we have to survive.  Anyway...it is an interesting article and certainly brings up lots of thoughts.  One thought that came to me was the idea that maybe we should organize our finances so that we could live on $40,000 per year if we had to, as sort of a disaster preparation idea.  What do you think?

Light week - I've been out playing tour guide quite a bit and responding to the crazy response to the article on State Veterans Bonuses and More State Veterans Bonuses.
