MILLINGTON, Tenn. (NNS) -- Sailors on Individual Augmentee (IA) orders in Bahrain can now take Navy College Program for Afloat College Education (NCPACE) classes.

NCPACE is a tuition-free option for sailors to take college courses via distance learning. Courses offered under NCPACE include 165 undergraduate courses on CD ROM. Sailors must pay for their own textbooks prior to receiving the course material.

"We've been steadily improving the reach of our educational opportunities," said Capt. William Dewes, Center for Personal Development, Norfolk, Va. "The Navy is a worldwide enterprise operating 24/7 and educational opportunities must be available for all of our sailors. The Navy is committed to developing and using any and all means to ensure education is accessible to our sailors anyplace, anytime."

There are guidelines for IA sailors wishing to participate in NCPACE Distance Learning, which are available from local Navy College Offices or the NCPACE Web site at http://159.115.100.97/NCPACE.

NCPACE courses are not available for non-IA personnel in Bahrain. However, they can take on-base and distance learning programs available through University of Maryland and Central Texas College. For more information on educational opportunities, visit the Navy College Office.
