SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Sheppard Airman & Family Readiness Center has been named Air Education and Training Command's best Readiness program for 2013.

With over 620 workshops conducted throughout the year, the A&FRC reached over 18,000 people in helping them prepare for a variety of readiness issues.

Another 9,200 personnel were provided individual counseling on a wide range of topics.

The A&FRC core services provide a baseline for services offered, including the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Wounded Warrior Support, Casualty Affairs, Employment Assistance and the Exceptional Family Member Support program.

Other programs include the Information & Referral program, Personal & Family Readiness, Personal and Family Work Life Education, Personal Financial Readiness, Relocation Assistance, Transition Assistance, School Liaison Officer, Survivor Benefit Program and Volunteer Resources.

The A&FRC staff is trained in multiple disciplines which provides a flexible and efficient delivery method for A&FRC programs and services.

"Our staff is deeply committed to making sure everyone gets the help they need," said Michelle Schroeder, Sheppard's Airman & Family Readiness Center director. "Providing the best resources possible is our number one priority."

Schroeder went on to say the A&FRC has ongoing classes and special events to augment one-on-one assistance provided by a staff that truly cares and enjoys supporting active duty, family members, civilian employees and retirees.

Highlights from the year include helping distribute $132,000 in Air Force Aid Society loans, educating over 890 local educators on military issues through the school liaison program and assisting 23 Wounded Warriors transition to civilian life.

"We can truly say we have the best jobs on base," Schroeder said. "Being able to reach out and assist those who need help--it doesn't get any better than that."
