Freshman Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado is the only veteran among the seven Democratic House impeachment managers named Wednesday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to make the case against President Donald Trump in the Senate next week.

Crow, a 40-year-old lawyer and member of the House Armed Services Committee, joined the Army in 2002 and served with the 82nd Airborne Division and 75th Ranger Regiment before leaving the military in 2006 with the rank of captain. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan and is the recipient of the Bronze Star.

Crow, representing Colorado's 6th District, which includes the Denver suburbs, frequently cites his military experience in addressing issues. He was elected in the 2018 Democratic surge that regained control of the House, becoming the first Democrat voted in from the 6th District since 1982.

In a statement last month supporting Trump's impeachment, Crow said, "As a member of Congress in this historic time, I reflect on my experience as a soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan where I saw how unique American democracy really is.

"Over the past few years, I have also learned how fragile it can be," he continued. "Our system of checks and balances only works when we fight to protect it. The President's actions are a threat to our national security and the very foundation of our democracy."

Crow will join the team of impeachment managers along with Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff, California; Jerry Nadler and Hakeem Jeffries, New York; Val Demings, Florida; Zoe Lofgren, California; and Sylvia Garcia, Texas.

As impeachment managers, they will essentially take on the role of prosecutors in pressing the articles of impeachment against Trump before the Senate.

Crow paraphrased from the "Ranger Creed" in his campaign for Congress: "I will shoulder more than my share of the task. ... Whatever it may be. ... One hundred percent -- and then some. Under no circumstances will I ever -- ever -- embarrass my country."
