SAN FRANCISCO – Military.com (www.Military.com), the nation’s largest military membership organization, has acquired OP-FOR.com, formerly The Officers’ Club, one of the Internet’s premier military blogs. OP-FOR.com brings an expert and often-irreverent voice to military matters, including strategy, foreign affairs, wargaming, and the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“In military jargon, OPFOR stands for ‘opposing force,’” said co-webmaster John Noonan. “It’s an army-ism that we felt accurately summed up this brave new world called milblogging. OP-FOR.com aims to educate and inform the blog-reading public on military topics, with an informal, and on a good day, entertaining spin.”

The blog changed its name from The Officers’ Club because unlike its brick-and-mortar namesake, this club welcomes enlisted servicemembers. OP-FOR.com sports a new look and a number of offerings beyond the daily entries, including podcasts, but Noonan is quick to ensure faithful readers that the blogging topics that made the site popular will remain.

OP-FOR.com joins Milblogging.com and DefenseTech.org as properties in Military.com’s blogosphere. “What a terrific addition to our roster of blogs,” said Ward Carroll, editor of Military.com. “OP-FOR is a great resource, at once funny, smart, and insightful.  Military.com is about facilitating the military community and this blog represents the best of what this exciting format can do.”
