Transition Master Class: Secrets of Recruiters

Everybody enters the military through a military recruiter. So why don't military members in transition think a recruiter is going to be a big help in getting a job in the civilian world?

Recruiters, sourcers and other talent acquisition professionals are essential to the civilian job hunt, especially after COVID-19. As Military.com's transition master coach, I think recruiters are one of the most neglected assets in our networks because we don't think of them as part of our network at all.

So often, I see military members looking at the recruiters who approach them with suspicion. It is as if they were calling to them from an alley hissing, "Hey, bub, wanna buy a watch?"

In reality, recruiters can alert you to the jobs that you want from employers who want you. A good recruiter can give you information on salaries, upcoming opportunities, shortcomings in your resume and job titles. I've known veterans who interviewed again and again at their dream company, only to land the job when the recruiter advocated for them to the hiring manager.

Recruiters have so many veteran insights to share, but we never ask because we don't know them.

That is why I put together our newest FREE transition master class: Secrets of Recruiters on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. EST. In addition to all the tips and tricks I've collected to share with you in true Veteran Employment Project style, I've invited one of my favorite transition experts to join us.

Sultan Camp, director of the Hampton Roads Workforce Council, is a Navy veteran who has been working as a headhunter and recruiter focused on military talent for years. He is an advocate for veterans and spouses in the hiring space. He is also one of those people who sees the big picture and is able to let you in on all the things you need to do to get your next high impact job.

In Secrets of Recruiters, you will learn:

  1. Why military friendly employers are not hiring you -- and how to turn that around fast.
  2. How to use LinkedIn to connect with recruiters in a way that feels normal and comfortable to you both, introvert and extrovert alike.
  3. Top veteran jobseeker behaviors that drive recruiters crazy and keep you unemployed.
  4. Recruiter secrets to getting the good guys hired fast.

Sign up today for our FREE master class, "Secrets of Recruiters: Get Hired Faster," to be held Thursday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. EST.
