The always-dependable movie team of Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg ("Lone Survivor," "Deepwater Horizon" and "Patriots Day") get back to pure action filmmaking with "Mile 22," a CIA thriller that's not based on a true event.

The movie's story is by Marine veteran Graham Roland, who also happens to be the showrunner and creator of Amazon's excellent new "Jack Ryan" series.

Wahlberg stars as James Silva, an operative for Overwatch, based on a CIA special ops unit called Ground Branch that kicks as much tactical ass as their military brethren do. There's an asset with some stuff that can't fall into enemy hands and Silva's team must retrieve the stuff with time running out. A story like that is all about the execution and these guys have a consistent track record of delivering the goods on this kind of story.

In a visceral modern thriller from the director of Lone Survivor, Mark Wahlberg stars as James Silva, an operative of the CIA's most highly-prized and least-understood unit. Aided by a top-secret tactical command team, Silva must retrieve and transport an asset who holds life-threatening information to Mile 22 for extraction before the enemy closes in.

The movie also stars Lauren Cohan ("The Walking Dead") and features former UFC champ Ronda Rousey in her biggest movie role to date.

We've got a clip that gives some background on the Ground Branch unit. Check out "Mile 22" in theaters on August 17th.
