Kate Mara (House of Cards, The Martian) stars as Leavey, a Marine assigned to clean up a K9 unit after a disciplinary hearing. She bonds with Rex, an aggressive dog deemed unfit for service and is given the opportunity to train him. The team completed over 100 missions before that IED knocked them out of service. After Leavey returned home, Rex continued in service until he developed a palsy. The trainer fought to have Rex released to her care so he could live out his life with his best friend.

Gabriela Cowperthwaite makes her debut as a feature director, but she's already made a big impact with the documentary Blackfish. The movie is rated PG-13 also stars Edie Falco, Ramón Rodríguez, Bradley Whitford, and Common.
