'Hacksaw Ridge' Nominated for Six Oscars

Hacksaw Ridge, the feature about World War II Medal of Honor recipient Desmond Doss, just earned six Academy Award nominations. As well as a coveted nomination for Best Picture, Mel Gibson is nominated for Best Director and Andrew Garfield received a Best Actor nomination for his portrayal of Doss.

The other three nominations were earned by John Gilbert (editing), Robert Mackenzie and Andy Wright (sound editing) and Kevin O’Connell, Andy Wright, Robert Mackenzie and Peter Grace (sound mixing).

Other nominations of note for our readers include Deepwater Horizon's Burt Dalton for Visual Effects (check out our exclusive interview here) and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi  for sound mixing.

Hacksaw Ridge will be released on Digital HD February 7th and 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on February 21st, so you have time to check out the movie before the awards ceremony.

The Academy Awards ceremony will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel on ABC and take place on February 26th in Los Angeles.
