In 2010, troops from the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division packed personal helmet cameras with their standard issue kit and flew out for a year's deployment in Afghanistan. Taking Fire is a new Discovery Channel series that combines that footage with new interviews with the men who recorded it to give a unique perspective on the War on Terror.
The five-episode series airs on Tuesdays at 10pm ET. Based at COP Michigan in the Korengal Valley, the show graphically illustrates the danger and challenges the soldiers faced in Afghanistan.
We've got a clip for the show's first episode:
The Department of Defense worked closely with Discovery and the producers on this series and has approved use of the footage shown in the program.
