Hard Target 2, a sequel to the 1993 classic directed by John Woo and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. Directed by Roel Reiné (The Marine 2, SEAL Team Eight: Behind Enemy Lines) and starring Scott Adkins (Jarhead 3: The Siege, Zero Dark Thirty), the movie follows the premise of the first Hard Target: a man with nothing to lose gets lured into a big game hunt where rich guys pay for the opportunity to hunt him as their prey.
Both Hard Target and Hard Target 2 are inspired by the 1932 Hollywood classic The Most Dangerous Game. The JCVD movie was set in the streets of New Orleans and the new version has disgraced MMA fighter Wes "The Jailor" Baylor (Adkins) trying to return to Thailand from Myanmar while a group of rich hunters organized by the shady character Adkins (Robert Knepper from “Prison Break” and Hitman)) try to end his life. Rhona Mitra (Shooter, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) co-stars as one of the hunters.
We've got a clip from the movie, a moment when Aldrich wants to let his goons beat up Baylor before they take him out forever. Obviously, that's a big mistake.
Hard Target 2 is one of those rare direct-to-video movies that's good enough that it could've been shown in theaters. More a remake than a straight sequel, it shares a lot more than just a title with the original. Anyone who loved the JCVD original will likely enjoy Hard Target 2.
