Uncovering the Syndicate in 'Misson: Impossible Rogue Nation'

Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD and we've got an exclusive clip that details the epic fight scene at the Vienna State Opera.

MI5 is built around stunt set pieces, action that's some of the most spectacular in the series. (That's not opinion: director Christoper McQuarrie announces that strategy in the movie's bonus features). The movie opens with the already-iconic scene where Tom Cruise gets stuck outside of a jet plane as it takes off and doesn't manage to get inside until the plane is airborne.

Check out the clip below. Stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood details how they developed a fighting style for Simon Pegg's character Benjie Dunn and how they helped series newcomer Rebecca Ferguson overcome her fear of heights. The clip comes from the Target exclusive "Impossible Stunts" edition.

This time, Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt has gone off the rails as he begins to put together details of a secret, multi-national and independent organization of spies out to undermine Western intelligence. Bond fans will recognize that the whole operation looks a lot like SPECTRE and, in a subversive twist, MI5's "The Syndicate" has shadowy connectiosn to British intelligence. Rebecca Ferguson (who spoke to Military.com before the film opened in theaters) plays Ilsa Faust, a disavowed/deep cover British agent who may or may not be Ethan's ally. Alec Baldwin shows up as the CIA director who gets Congress to shut down the IMF and aims to arrest Hunt while he's trying to prove that the Syndicate exists.

The plot isn't quite as strong as the stories for MI3 and Ghost Protocol, but it definitely makes more sense that the first two did. Mission Impossible movies may not have the over-the-top adrenaline of the Fast/Furious movies, but they're still the best contemporary movies about the paranoia and conflicting loyalties of the spy game.

In addition to the Target version, you can buy Best Buy steelbook editions of Rogue Nation or the complete five-movie collection. Walmart has an exclusive on the DVD collection of all five films. Complete purchase information here.
