Terminator Genisys brings Arnold Schwarzenegger back to the role that made him the biggest movie star of the '90s. The movie is out this week on Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. There are exclusive package from various retailers: links to buy the movie in every imaginable format are here.

We've got a video about the movie's design of the future war between Skynet and the John Connor-led resistance. James Cameron made the two original movies on far more limited budgets that only allowed him to suggest the scale of the conflict, but the new film goes all in on battle scenes that last on a short time at the beginning of the movie.

The filmmakers behind Terminator aren't afraid of the central contradiction at the heart of all time-travel movies: once you invent a time machine, what's to stop future bad guys from flooding the past with multiple operatives to ensure the desired bad-guy outcome? Terminator Genisys introduces an alternate version of the rise of Skynet, one that exists because Kyle Reese screwed up the original rise of Skynet in the older movies. There's a big John Connor surprise and Arnold's Terminator shows up as Sarah Connor's lifelong protector.

The movie is obviously a labor of love by people who are really into Terminator mythology and they seem to believe that the rest of the world shares a Star Wars-level obsession with Skynet. This one's way better than the last two and seems like it's the most logical successor to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Arnold's delighted to be back and this is definitely his best post-Governator picture.
