The first trailer for Oliver Stone's movie Snowden has premiered online and you can watch it below. Scheduled for release December 25th, the film tells the life story of Edward Snowden, the NSA contractor who leaked a massive amount of classified material to journalists two years ago in June 2013.
Stone cast a pair of actors popular with young moviegoing audiences: Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, Looper) portrays Snowden in the movie, while Shailene Woodley (Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars) plays girlfriend Lindsay Mills. Zachary Quinto (Spock in the new Star Trek movies) plays journalist Glenn Greenwald, Tom Wilkinson plays his Guardian counterpart Ewan MacAskill and Melissa Leo stars as Citizenfour director Laura Poitras. Nicholas Cage and Timothy Olyphant from Justified also appear in roles yet to be announced.
The trailer doesn't actually show scenes from the movie, but it does educate a less-informed moviegoing public about Snowden's military and NSA careers before calling him the "most wanted man in the world." Vietnam vet Stone has been an unrelenting critic of the U.S. government since winning his Oscar for Platoon. Will you see Snowden?
