Is 'Gravity' the Best Space Movie Ever?

James Cameron has already said this about Alfonso Cuarón's movie Gravity: “I was stunned, absolutely floored. I think it’s the best space photography ever done, I think it’s the best space film ever done, and it’s the movie I've been hungry to see for an awful long time.”

Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts stranded in space after debris destroys their space shuttle, the movie details their efforts to survive with limited oxygen in almost limitless space.

Most American moviegoers would know Cuarón as the director of Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban, which in hindsight is by far the best movie in that series. He walked away from the franchise to make the fantastic sci-fi thriller Children of Men (rent it on iTunes, Vudu or Amazon) and it's taken seven years to bring this space story to the screen, partially because he had to wait for the technology to catch up with the visual images he wanted to present.

This one was shot in 3D and it looks like it's actually going to use the technology to great effect. Gravity opens in America on October 4th.
