Readers of a certain age might remember the John Carter of Mars paperbacks mixed in with the Tarzan novels in their grandparents' attics. Both characters were created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. In the highly successful book series, Confederate Captain John Carter was transported to a Mars-like planet by astral projection and now that story has inspired John Carter, a PG-13 Disney movie that's set to open this Friday.
Andrew Stanton (director of the animated classics Finding Nemo and WALL-E) makes his live action debut with this movie and apparently, the suits at Disney have done an awful job of marketing the movie, so they've released this 10-minute clip to drum up some business. Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch plays Carter and this clip also features Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston as the Union Captain Powell.
