If it makes you feel better, you might want to note that it's not just American TV news programs that create imaginary controversies that distract viewers from whatever real issues the reporters are too lazy to cover.

Czech President Vaclav Klaus has been getting hassled back home because it looks like he stole a pen after signing a trade agreement with Chile. You don't even have to speak Czech to have a pretty good idea what the reporters are saying in the clip. It's the same forced joke timing, the same smirk and the same fake laughter you can see in every local TV market across this great country. It's too bad we can't charge royalties for that snarky attitude and use the money to pay down the trade deficit.
