Maybe Senator Mellencamp Has a Plan to Solve the Housing Crisis

There's a movement afoot in Indiana to draft noted Populist and semi-retired rock star John "Cougar" Mellencamp as a replacement for retiring Indiana Senator Evan Bayh. There's even a "Draft John Mellencamp for Senate!" group on Facebook.

Considering how much trouble Mellencamp's had over the years keeping his mouth shut about disputes with his record companies, it's hard to imagine he can adapt to the rules and rituals of Washington.  The smart money says Senator Cougar would just go ahead and have a Mr. Smith Goes to Washington meltdown on the Senate floor:

Mellencamp's issues with authority don't seem to extend to the military: he worked with the DoD to perform for wounded soldiers in 2007 at Walter Reed Hospital.
