Two decades after the United States cut back on its investment in space travel, private enterprise has stepped in to take up the slack. 


Everyday rocket trips may finally be here by 2011, if Virgin Galactic's VSS Enterprise works as advertised. Unveiled this week in California's Mojave Desert, the craft (previously known as spaceshiptwo) will carry passengers into low-level orbit after they purchase a $200,000 ticket. 


All the investment bankers have promised to wave when they pass overhead.
