Earlier this week we discussed how the new Blended Retirement System (BRS) works for active duty members.

We have another video from the Air Force that explains how reservists can benefit from enrolling in the new BRS.

Like active duty members, there is an open season for reservists to opt-in to the new retirement system, reservists with less than 4,320 retirement points as of Jan. 1, 2018 have the option to switch to the new system or stay in their current retirement system.

The BRS can be a better choice depending on your situation due to the addition of government matching contributions to your Thrift Savings Plan. There  is also a mid-career continuation pay bonus. The bonus varies by each branch of service and often by military specialty, for specific details contact your personnel office.
