Sometimes I don't understand stores. I was in a convenience store this morning, buying a soda. (I know, it is a waste of money, but I have a problem and I'm really beyond stress right now.) Anyway, I instinctively grabbed for the conveniently located 20 ounce size, right there at eye and hand level. $1.59? That is insane! I might really need some caffeine, but that seems high. I know that sometimes the larger bottles are less expensive, so I looked down at the bigger bottles. They were 24 ounces, and only 20 cents more. I could quickly guesstimate that was a better deal, but they were out of Diet Coke. In frustration, I looked to the top of the case to see if they had any cans. No cans, but they did have 16.9 ounce bottles for just 99 cents.
Now, let's do the math:
- 20 ounces at $1.59 = nearly 8 cents per ounce
- 24 ounces at $1.79 = less than 7.5 cents per ounce
- 16.9 ounces at 99 cents = under 6 cents per ounce
The 16.9 ounce bottle is the clear winner, plus you're not ingesting so much junk. It is a win in both departments! I don't understand why they need to make this so complicated.
Make sure to look high and low when you're shopping to find the best deals.
