Most military families today are not saving adequately for retirement and many do not have an emergency fund.

Military Saves, a partner in the Department of Defense Financial Readiness Campaign, created Military Saves Week in 2007 to motivate servicemembers and their families to better their finances.

To date, more than 128,000 individuals have taken the Saver Pledge, a commitment to begin the journey toward financial freedom.

This year, Military Saves Week is encouraging everyone to "Set a Goal, Make a Plan, Save Automatically." Military Saves provides helpful tips for successful saving, establishing credit, paying down debt, planning for retirement and much more.

This year, Military Saves Week is Feb. 25 to March 2 and when savers take the Military Saves pledge at http://www.militarysaves.org/take-the-pledge they can opt to receive:

· Free subscription to the monthly Military Saves e-Newsletter
· Quarterly e-newsletters from America Saves
· Free access to Savers Tracking Tool to help reach saving goals

Savers can also get tips by following Military Saves on Facebook and Twitter and by reading the Military Saves blog at http://www.militarysaves.org/blog. Participants can learn more by visiting www.militarysaves.org.
