The RAND Corporation recently released a report on the military’s Survivor Benefit Plan. The Congressionally mandated report concludes that the SBP is “well-structured to provide survivor benefits” and the benefits “compare well with those of public and private plans.” However, the 64,000 surviving spouses who continue to see their SBP cut or eliminated due to an offset of the Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) may not agree with the glowing report.
