The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Debt Management Center has suspended collections on debts for individuals located in the Federal Emergency Management Agency's recently declared hurricane disaster areas. VA also partnered with the U.S. Department of the Treasury to have collections suspended on Veteran benefit debts that have been referred to Treasury for collection within the same disaster areas. Veterans can find out if they are in a FEMA-declared disaster area by visiting FEMA's disasters page. The suspension of these collections is slated to remain in effect through March 2018.
