An Army captain risked his own safety to help a man struck by lightning. On June 6, Capt. Robert Blume, a physician assistant who supervises combat medic trainees at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, was driving through stormy weather at the end of a workday when his skills were called upon. Spotting the lights of emergency responder vehicles ahead of him, he stopped to investigate and discovered a 21-year-old man had been struck by lightning while on the roof of a house. According to a service news release, Blume sprang into action, climbing onto the roof and working with paramedics to continue chest compressions on the man, and then open an airway. As the storm continued, Blume helped responders lower the man from the roof so he could receive further care. Read more at Army.mil.
