The U.S. Navy recently updated regulations to make it unlawful to share an intimate image of someone without his or her permission for personal gain or to humiliate, harm, harass, intimidate, threaten, or coerce the depicted person or with reckless disregard of harm to the victim. This regulation complements Article 120c, 'Other Sexual Misconduct' of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). Anyone found to have violated the new regulation could be subject to court-martial or adverse administrative actions. Anyone with knowledge of the wrongful sharing of intimate images should submit a tip to the Navy Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS) via text to 274637 or on the NCIS website.
