On July 4, 2015, many deployed servicemembers in Afghanistan were able to enjoy some pizza courtesy of an organization called Pizza 4 Patriots and contributors across the U.S. The organization fulfilled its goal of sending more than 4,500 pizzas or more than 34,000 slices to distribute throughout Afghanistan. Most of the troops the organization serves are stationed at Forward Operating Bases in active war zones, and have been only eating packaged MRE’s (Meals Ready-to-Eat) for several months at time.
