The commissary and military exchange systems plan to work together more on planning and promoting joint sales, according to a release. In the past, the two systems have not worked together to promote each other. The systems, which are separate, are funded and operated under different structures. The commissary receives taxpayer funding to cover the bulk of its operation costs, including employees, while the exchange system is run by four companies under a partnership with the Defense Department.
