The Border Jobs for Veterans Act, which has already passed both houses of Congress, aims to connect veterans with hundreds of open positions with Customs and Border Protection. The bill would put veterans working at ports of entry across the country. People are encouraged to apply year-round for jobs with Customs and Border Protection because the application process can be lengthy. Hiring veterans could speed up that process, according to some of the bill's co-sponsors like Arizona Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake. The belief is that the returning veteran would still have some form of clearance, so background checks and other tests could be much quicker. The bill is awaiting President Obama's signature.
