Telling Tales from Ramadi

From laying down suppressive fire with Humvee-mounted M240 machine guns to rescuing American and Iraqi troops in trouble, soldiers are featured throughout Anthony Deane's new book about his deployment a decade ago to Ramadi, Iraqi.

The retired Army colonel is the author of "Ramadi Declassified: A Roadmap to Peace in the Most Dangerous City in Iraq," which was published in May by Praetorian Books.

As I wrote in a longer piece at Military.com, Deane said he wrote the book in part to tell the story of the soldiers with whom he served. "I thought the story of my soldiers needed to be told," he said. "They just fought heroically...It sounds kind of corny to say uncommon valor was common, but it really was."
