It's a bird, it's a plane, it's ... a futuristic hoverbike that can carry troops' loads.

Called the Picatinny Pallet: Sustainment Aerial Mobility Vehicle, this Army protoype hoverbike recently completed a tour across the country, stopping at Fort Benning, Ga., Fort Bragg, N.C., Fort Lee, Va., and Quantico, Va.

Officials with the Marine Corps Warfighting lab got a chance to inspect the pallet during its visit to Quantico, seen in the MCWL video below.

The vehicle was also on display at the AUSA conference in March.

According to the Defense Systems Information Analysis Center, the hoverbike is being developed to support a 300-lb payload.

"Future development will address the full spectrum of tactical operations to include megacity mobility," a post from the center said. "The family of systems will improve readiness, reduce wait time, and Soldier threat exposure."
