Israelis Show Off Intel Plane

The Israeli company IAI has put one of the country's most powerful military intelligence tools on display here at the Farnborough Air Show in what appears to be a reminder for Iran of the Jewish state's capabilities.

The plane is known as the G550 Gulfstream Conformal Airborne Early Warning. It is essentially a flying radar system used to monitor airspace for unwelcome intruders.

I saw the plane earlier this week but didn't know how significant a role it plays in Israeli military affairs. My colleagues at Flight International knew what they were looking at and reported in today's show daily (a huge newspaper they put out each day of the air show) that the Israelis pointedly unveiled the plane at Ben-Gurion Airport last week "in response to Iranian military exercises and missile tests."
