KC-135 Replacement Effort Set to Enter its Second Decade

Us media types just received a holiday greeting from KC-X contender EADS North America's press office reminding everyone we're about to enter the second decade of Air Force's push to replace its oldest KC-135s.

I hope you have a great holiday season.  It’s been a pleasure working with you in 2010—and in the years preceding.  I also hope you all get some quality time off as we enter the second decade of tanker!

This also means that the nearly 50-year old KC-135 fleet is close to entering another decade of service, (the oldest still in service were introduced in early 1960s).

I'm not going to say anything other than let's hope this is the latest round of KC-X gets wrapped up quickly. Everyone is expecting an award to come soon after the New Year. Hopefully the Air Force really has done a good enough job on its RfP to prevent another round of protests. Still, you never know what might happen with this program.
