Brown-Out Conditions Caused Fatal CV-22 Osprey Crash in Afghanistan

That's what Stephen Trimble over at Flight International is reporting as the cause of the April 8 crash of the special operations Osprey that killed four and injured others; it was not due to mechanical failure. The CV-22 pilots lost situational awareness due to brown-out while landing in a wadi around 1 a.m. His source: someone "familiar with the preliminary findings of the U.S. military investigation." We'll continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
