My colleague Christian Lowe over at Kit Up has a story about Marine Ospreys inserting Force Recon Marines and Afghan troops in blocking positions in southern Afghanistan to cut off Taliban escape routes and meet up with advancing ground elements. It marks one of the first operational uses of the Osprey in the Marja offensive, Christian writes.

The Marine's ACE is operating 10 of the tilt-rotor aircraft and expects to receive two more from the 24th MEU as it transits the Red Sea on its way to Afghanistan. Marine officials told Christian that at least three of the Ospreys have been outfitted with the special built underbelly gun system and more aircraft will be getting them soon.
