SPOOKS ROLL THE DICE ON "TIA" ALTERNATIVE A Las Vegas software company known for helping casinos spot fraud says it may have developed an alternative to the stomach-churning invasiveness of the Total Information Awareness database project.Systems Research and Development claims its technology "can help investigators determine whether a terrorist suspect appears in two separate databases -- say, a government watch list and a hotel reservation system," according to Wired News. "And the company says it can make that determination without handing over the government list to the hotel, and without handing the reservation records over to the government."The company is backed by the CIA's investment arm, In-Q-Tel. The Pentagon is reviewing the new database system.
