SEOUL, South Korea -- A U.S. service member stationed at Osan Air Base has been charged with sexually assaulting a South Korean woman at a hotel in Seoul's trendy Gangnam district, officials said.
The man met the woman at a club, then took her to a nearby hotel where the incident allegedly happened April 1, according to the Seoul central district prosecutor's office.
Police took time to identify and locate the suspect after the woman reported the assault by combing through closed-circuit television footage from the area and using DNA, officials said.
They then worked with U.S. representatives to summon and question the servicemember in accordance with the status of forces agreement between the two countries.
The suspect was indicted July 17 and has been jailed, an official in the prosecutor's office said, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to provide the details.
The official said the woman had been too drunk and incapacitated to give consent.
The 51st Fighter Wing public affairs office at Osan said it was looking into the case and could not immediately comment.
