Here are the stories generating the most comments this week on Military.com, along with a sampling of responses edited for clarity:

Father of Dead Navy SEAL Refused to Meet Trump at Ceremony

  • Every person entering the military signs a blank check for his soul and knows what chances he/she is taking, just welcome home a HERO and offer prayers for family, and I bet the father knows all of this if he was/is in fact a veteran. Semper Fi. -- 34729455
  • Apparently, there was no valuable intel gleaned from this debacle and Trump has just announced that he wants to tack on $54 Billion to an already bloated Defense budget. I'm quite sure that we're going to be seeing some more angry and distraught parents in the near future. What? NO Congressional investigation? -- Mr_Scorpio

Glock Protests Army’s Modular Handgun Decision

  • Why are we buying guns from overseas. Am I missing something here? We should buy American with our Tax Dollars. Smith & Wesson and/or Colt are American Made. Keep our money for our workers... Vietnam Vet. -- Fred Ricketts
  • I am not saying the SIG P320 is the greatest gun available for use, but the overall design and function is clearly superior to Glock. It only took around 30 years, but a lot of people are finally waking up to the hard fact that a Glock is nothing but an overrated and glorified ghetto gun that has become a media darling. -- Mr. B

Trump Seeking $54B Increase in Defense Spending, Cuts Elsewhere

  • A bunch of the cuts are from the Department of State. And even our military commanders are saying that if you're cutting the budget at DoS, you might need a much larger military budget. -- PolicyWonk
  • Then what's left? A well-armed military dictatorship? You should study what the Founding Fathers wanted for our country, rather than what Mussolini did. -- David Fowler

Navy Delays Recycling Plan For Former USS Enterprise

  • Put the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) on display ! And freshen up a couple of the reactors for reliable power at a Naval Base. Also can be used to train sailors on maintaining a big ship. -- T. Lipinski
  • I wonder if all those commenting here are aware that the Navy's oldest CVN still in commission is USS Nimitz and she is 45 years in commission this coming May? -- shipfixr

More Base Services Cut Due to Federal Hiring Freeze

  • This makes no sense. If these places had sufficient manpower to operate, how does a hiring freeze all of sudden force cutting services they already had the manpower to provide? The hiring freeze wasn't an order to fire people. -- adrestia
  • Those people leave their positions and then the store is unable to hire to fulfill the position again. Many people who work on base installations are spouses who PCS with their military member. -- morganoverton

McMaster's Tank Battle in Iraq May Shape Advice in New Role

  • I know McMaster, and he's of good character and sound mind. IF he's given carte blanche to do his job, then he'll be sound. However, I strongly believe he'll be strong-armed by Trump and Bannon, and with Bannon on the national security team (which I still don't understand), McMaster's hands will be tied. -- USNQG
  • Now there is a leader who uses situational awareness in battle and that can be a valuable tool in any "chess match" regarding National Security issues. Adapt, Improvise and Overcome the "obstacle"! or FIDO. -- TeXan1111
