SANDSTON, Va. — Soldiers from the Virginia National Guard have returned stateside after their deployment in Qatar.
The Guard said in a news release that the first of 450 soldiers returned Tuesday evening to readiness centers in Winchester, Leesburg and Suffolk.
The soldiers were part of Task Force Normandy provided security for installations in the U.S. Army's Central Command area of operations in Qatar. Their assignment began in September.
Soldiers searched nearly 140,000 vehicles and more than 303,000 people, and conducted nearly 970 security patrols. No soldiers were killed or seriously wounded in action during the deployment.
