NY Army National Guard Hosting Honor Guard Training Program


CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y.  — Army National Guard members from across the U.S. are at a New York base for training in how to conduct military funerals.

Eleven National Guard honor guard members from across the country are at the New York Army National Guard's Camp Smith Training Site in northern Westchester County as part of a two-week program that trains soldiers how to instruct other soldiers in honor guard funeral protocols.

The training is being conducted by the New York Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Under federal law, military honor guards are required at the funeral of any veteran who received an honorable discharge.

New York's Army National Guard Honor Guard conducts about 10,000 military funerals each year.
