Staff Sgt. Albert Goodson, a combat instructor with the School of Infantry -- West on base, earned the runner-up Marine Combat Instructor of the Year award as part of the Commandant of the Marine Corps Combined Awards Program.
The program recognizes Marines who best exemplify leadership and devotion to duty in their special-duty assignment and career in the Marines.
Goodson was recognized as a standout for his "enthusiasm, esprit de corps and motivation."
Goodson joined the Corps 11 years ago. He was an honor graduate at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C., and was meritoriously promoted to private first class. He further distinguished himself as an honor graduate in Marine Combat Training at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
After receiving further training, Goodson was assigned to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 3 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., and has been deployed multiple times to Iraq.
Five years ago, he was named chief of the Marine Aviation Training Support Group 53 Training and Operations.
Goodson has served as combat instructor for three years and serves in the Testing and Evaluation Section of the Battalion Instructor Group.
