RICHMOND, Va. — U.S. Rep. Randy Forbes is organizing a rare legislative hearing on board an aircraft carrier shortly before a contested Republican primary.
The Virginian-Pilot reports the May 23 hearing will involve two subcommittees of the House Armed Services Committee.
The Republican lawmaker said the event, scheduled to take place in the hanger bay of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, will inform congressmen and the public of funding shortages for the Navy.
Forbes currently represents the recently redrawn 4th Congressional District, but is seeking to win the GOP nomination in more Republican-friendly 2nd Congressional District. On the campaign trail, he has emphasized his seniority in the U.S. House, particularly on spending matters affecting the Navy and Marines.
Forbes is facing two challengers in the June 14 primary.
