DOVER, Del. -- Officials at Dover Air Force Base have scheduled a memorial service for an airman who went missing last month.
Base officials said Thursday that after reviewing investigative evidence, and in accordance with Air Force guidance, 436th Airlift Wing commander Col. Michael Grismer has declared Senior Airman Keifer Huhman dead. A memorial service is scheduled Friday.
Huhman was last seen on Feb. 7, just hours before his truck was found on the shoulder of the bridge spanning the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. He was reported missing after failing to report for duty the next day.
While base officials have declared Huhman dead, his body has not been found. A spokesman for the Dover police department, which is investigating his disappearance, said Thursday that the case is still open.
