LAS VEGAS -- Smith & Wesson had its new Performance Center M&P Ported Shield pistol on display at SHOT Show 2016's range day.

"What makes it unique and different from the standard Shield is first it's ported for reduced muzzle flip … and has fiber optic sights for quicker target acquisition," said Tony Miele, general manager for S&W Performance Center. "It has a Performance Center sear in it for quicker trigger reset."

The ported Shield also features a Performance Center striker plunger for improved trigger pull, he said.

It's available in 9mm and .40 caliber and retails for $519 compared to the standard Shield's $449 price tag.
