SAN DIEGO -- A Navy official says two sailors suffered minor injuries during a training exercise in rough seas off the Southern California coast.
Lt. Cmdr. Nicole Schwegman says the sailors were aboard a small vessel that was hit by a wave early Thursday near San Clemente Island.
Schwegman says the sailors were brought aboard a nearby warship and treated for minor injuries. She did not know the nature of the injuries.
At least two small vessels with up to six people aboard each were conducting exercises near the island about 80 miles west of the San Diego County coast.
There was a small craft advisory in the area and a gale warning to the northwest.
This story has been corrected to reflect that the sailors were hurt Thursday, not Wednesday.
