PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Coast Guardsman charged with violating a number of Articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice pled guilty and was sentenced Wednesday during a special court-martial in Norfolk, Va.
Lt. Wayne Barfield, 44, pled guilty in accordance with the pre-trial agreement to two specifications of Article 93 (maltreatment), two specifications of Article 128 (assault), Article 133 (conduct unbecoming an officer) and two specifications of Article 134 (fraternization, and drunk and disorderly conduct). Barfield was sentenced to 60 days restriction to Base Elizabeth City, N.C., a letter of reprimand and $1,000 per month forfeiture of pay for 12 months.
Additionally, in accordance with the pre-trial agreement, Barfield has submitted his request to retire as a chief warrant officer two.
Vice Adm. Robert Parker, Coast Guard Atlantic Area commander, was the court-martial convening authority.
Barfield was formerly assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Gallatin and has been administratively assigned to Marine Safety Unit Savannah and Facilities Engineering Base Elizabeth City while he awaited trial.
