Navy Sailor, Fiancee Marry at Nevada Airport

RENO, Nev. - A U.S. Navy sailor has married his high school sweetheart in Reno-Tahoe International Airport, just moments after returning from an 11-month deployment off the coast of war-torn Syria.

U.S. Navy sailor Dylan Ruffer and Madison Meinhardt tied the knot about midnight Tuesday under a tulle-covered arch in front of the arrivals escalators. Both are 19.

Airport spokesman Brian Kulpin says about 200 people watched the spectacle, including strangers and surprised passengers.

The bride had inquired about an airport wedding about three weeks earlier, saying Ruffer wanted to marry her the moment he saw her after returning from his Navy assignment.

Reno-area businesses provided the cake, honeymoon suite and a DJ for the reception in the baggage claim area.
