WASHINGTON — A loss of situational awareness, poor flight discipline and planning, and failure to control the aircraft’s flight path were identified as contributing factors to the collapse of nose landing gear on an Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas-based HU-25 Guardian aircraft performing touch and go landings at Eagle County Regional Airport in Vail, Colo., Nov. 17, 2009, according to a final action memo released here Tuesday.
No aircrew were injured but the aircraft did not return to service and is scheduled for decommission in 2013.
The memo also notes that though there were contributing factors, there were no clear primary factors causing the incident and there was no misconduct on the part of the aircrew.
The incident was documented in the accident and violation record section of each pilot’s logbook.
